All Town of Pelham residents fifty five (55) years and older may participate in the many activities, meetings, special events and trips sponsored by the Recreation Department. Club membership is free. The senior's meeting is held weekly on Monday afternoons, from 1:00 to 4:00PM at the Richard J. Daronco Town House, 20 Fifth Avenue. For further information, call the Senior Citizen Advocate at 738-5004.
The Senior Advocate is available to every senior who resides in the Villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor known as the Town of Pelham. Any senior who has difficulty with apartment rental, homecare, HEAP, doctor and Meals on Wheels referral, Medicare, tax forms, State Star Tax Program, Estate Planning, elderly Law, and Lawyer Referral should call the Senior Advocate office at (914) 738-5004.
The Senior citizen Medical Van is available to all seniors 55 years and older who reside in the Town of Pelham. The Van is available 9AM-4PM Monday to Friday only. In order to make use of the Senior Medical Van, seniors must call the day before his or her appointment. Pick up and return will be from door to door. The areas of service consist only of the Town of Pelham, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Scarsdale (Lord & Taylor area only), Bronxville, Ridge Hill in Yonkers, and Mamaroneck. For service call 864-1155.
Available to all residents of the Town of Pelham 55 and older and the Senior Citizen's Club are trips as decided upon and scheduled by the seniors to: Theatres, Parks and Recreation, Dinners, Boat Rides, Octoberfest, Radio City Music Hall, CIA for lunch and Villa Roma. No fee for Pelham Residents to join club.
Also availalbe at the Richard J. Daronco Town House are:
All card games, Bingo, Kinitting and Crocheting, Art Classes, In-house parties, Exercise, Yoga and Computer Classes.
The Pelham Recreation Department along with the Pelham Senior Citizen Advocate's office ,telephone number 738-5004, have announced their 2012 programs. Again,this year we will be offering our Pelham Seniors ages 55 and above, three in house programs for Pelham Residents only.
ALL PROGRAMS WILL BE HELD AT THE RICHARD J. DARONCO TOWN HOUSE
ALL programs will begin the Week of January 3, 2012 and go to July 27, 2012
Tuesdays: Exercise Class 11:00AM - 12:00Noon / Instructor: Offutt Porter
The type of class consists of various forms of stretching, random motion, isometric and low impact aerobics. All levels welcome / Sit or Stand
Wednesdays: Computer Classes / Instructor: Mary Mooney
Three classes starting at 11:00AM-12:00Noon, Second class 12:00Noon-1:00PM, and the third class is from 1:00PM to 2:00PM. A limit of (6) students per class. The types of software the seniors are instructed to use are Windows XP, Internet Explorer and Office XP.
Wednesdays: Blood sugar and Blood pressure will be screened the first Wednesday of each month from the hours of 12:00Noon-1:00PM by Angela Champion RN - open to all seniors.
Fridays: Yoga Class from 10:00AM-11:00AM / Intructor: Mary Kean
The class consists of various forms of yoga exercises.
All programs are offered to Pelham Residents 55 years and older.
Special trips and events sponsored by the Town of Pelham are available to all Pelham seniors 55 years and older. The trips are planned by the Senior Citizen's Club, which meets most Mondays at 1:00PM at the Richard J. Daronco Town House, 20 Fifth Avenue. Guest speakers are invited to speak to the club once or twice a month. Trips are planned to theatres, parks, dinners, boat rides, Oktoberfest, Radio City Music Hall, and Little Italy. These are just a few examples. Card games and Bingo are played after each meeting and cards are also played on Wednesdays and Fridays @1:00PM-4:00PM.
During the year the Pelham seniors have six parties:
March - St. Patrick-St. Josephs Day
May - Mothers, Fathers Day
July - Hotdog Day
September - Pizza
June Spring Party @ Davenport Club
December Holiday Party @ Davenport Club
The senior advocate office is available for consultation to every senior 55 years and older who resides in the Villages of Pelham or Pelham Manor. They will assist any senior who has questions about, a need for, or is having difficulty with home care, HEAP, doctor referrals, Medicare, meals on wheels.
